Mascara is one of my all-time favorite beauty products. But, like all good things, too much can be bad for you. You might think that because mascara is such an essential part of your daily makeup routine, you should use it everyday but in fact that’s not the case. In fact, when used daily or too often it can damage your lashes by clumping them together and making them brittle over time. So how often should you use mascara?
Approximately every 4 months
You should replace your mascara every 4 months. This is because most mascaras have a shelf life of 3-6 months, and they lose their effectiveness after this time period passes. If you use it daily or weekly, then you should be replacing it more often than that.
If you are unsure if your mascara has expired or not, look for signs that it has gone bad. One common sign is clumps in the tube and on the wand, but there may also be other visible signs of degradation such as browning or drying out of formula over time as well as changes in smell/consistency.
Avoid water proof mascara if you want to use it daily
Waterproof mascara is more difficult to remove and can irritate the eyes. It can also lead to infections, like conjunctivitis, which is the technical term for pink eye. If you wear waterproof mascara daily, it’s best to use a gentle cleanser or an oil-based makeup remover that won’t dry out your skin or cause any irritation before attempting to take it off with cold cream or another product intended for this purpose.
Always always always use a lash curler
If you want to make your lashes look longer, it’s important to use a lash curler beforehand. This is not the time for procrastination!
The right way to apply mascara is: curl your lashes and then apply mascara. This will help prevent clumps by keeping each lash separate instead of sticking together.
Use an eyelash serum like Revitalash to help strengthen and grow your lashes
You can also use an eyelash serum to help strengthen and grow your lashes.
Some people find success with an eyelash curler, but I don’t love this method because it can lead to pinching and pulling on the lashes, which makes them fall out more easily. One way around this is to curl your lashes before applying mascara so that they are already lifted off of the lid, making mascara application easier. It’s also important to use a mascara that isn’t water-proof or waterproof—when possible choose one labeled “water-resistant,” as these tend not to be as drying or damaging on your natural lashes (plus they won’t run in your eye when you cry). Finally, remember that every night before bed is a great time for removing makeup! Cleaning off all of those layers will help prevent clumping when reapplying in the morning
Clean your lashes twice a day to remove excess dirt, oil and grime from the day. It will also help prevent them from caking on mascara

- Use a warm washcloth to gently wipe off any makeup that has accumulated throughout the day. Don’t scrub too hard as this can be damaging for your eyes.
You should use mascara once or twice a week and cleanse daily.
How often you should use mascara depends on what type of mascara you are using. If you are using a non-waterproof mascara, then it is safe to use daily. If you are using a more waterproof formula, then it is best to only apply once or twice per week and remove by cleansing your face every evening before bedtime.
Hopefully, you can use this information to have better looking lashes and help prevent them from ever getting damaged or breaking off.
